My Story

Renee Gielis RD (SA)

BSc(Honours)Dietetics, UK

​

  • Renee is a private practising dietitian based in Seapoint and Hout Bay. She consults with private clients, groups, corporates as well as hospital/ clinic based patients.

  • Although South African, she obtained her dietetics degree at London Metropolitan University and thereafter went onto work at various NHS hospitals in the UK.

  • Since returning to South Africa over 10 years ago, she has worked at several private hospitals and clinics in Cape Town i.e. Kingsbury and Claremont Hospitals, Constantiaberg Medi – Clinic, Kenilworth Clinic, Kenilworth House and Crescent Clinic

  • She covers all areas of dietetics

  • Has a special interest in gastrointestinal disorders. She has worked extensively with IBS sufferers and the FODMAP diet approach. 

  • Other areas of interest include weight loss, oncology, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. 

  • She also is passionate about women’s health and covers areas such as fertility nutrition, pregnancy and post- partum nutrition, PCOS, gestational diabetes and menopause

  • Work with Corporations includes Wellness Days and talks for SARS, Investec, Growthpoint, Standard Bank and Metropolitan Health. She is also currently the dietitian at the Standard Bank Head Office in Cape Town as well as consulting on site with employees at Investec.

  • She is part of Discovery the Health Wellness Network, offering nutrition assessments which provide valuable feedback and earn members Vitality points

  • Renee has also been part of the Woolworths Education programme as she knows how empowering educating people both young and old on how their quality of life can be improved using nutrition as a tool. She has also taken part in various communitynutrition projects in a variety of settings i.e. townships, retirement homes, schools.

  • Renee feels that diet can play a vital role in the treatment of disease and disease prevention. A dietitian knows the impact of nutrition on physical and physiological health but also the role it plays on our mental, emotional, social and economic well being. How we eat therefore impacts on every facet of our human experience.
